In a surprise move Disney has reversed its decision to close its hand drawn studios. The studios were closed in 2005 in favor of computer animated films, but after the Pixar acquisition in 2006 Disney would have had two separate groups attempting digitally rendered entertainment and I suspect the decision seemed futile considering Disney now owned the best rendering company in the world.
I think this is a great move on behalf of Disney. I have lost a lot of faith in the company in recent years, especially since there is little for them to appeal to me with. But the artistry of hand drawn animation is amazing and worth keeping as a different form of art. After all, whether is it Mickey driving a steam boat, or Buzz Lightyear attempting to fly. Both are amazing forms of art and entertainment, and for 50 years Disney set the bar that all others are measured against.
